Carlsbad Park Hyatt Aviara Kicks Off The Holidays In Style

The winter holiday season was on full display this past weekend at Carlsbad’s Park Hyatt Aviara Resort.  On Saturday, Aviara held its first annual Holiday Open House and welcomed everyone from the community to join in on the fun.  Attendees were greeted by carolers in Dicken’s style costume, Christmas tress all through the resort, and a winter wonderland outside.  There were beautfilly decorated gingerbread houses on display as well as a model train in the main entrance. Children were more than welcome at this celebration.  There...

Del Mar Fall Food Truck Festival – Southern California Event

Del Mar Food Truck Festival Let’s talk southern California food trucks. When I worked construction, don’t laugh, we used to call them roach coaches with love of course. BUt these kitchens on wheels have taken off and moved beyond basic sandwiches and burritos. Lobster, Italian dishes, and even vegan organic meals are coming off of these trucks. They have come a long way baby. Today, November 22, 2014, the Del Mar Fair Grounds is hosting the Fall Food Truck Festival. You can come in to play the ponies and enjoy the food trucks all...

San Diego TV Icon Larry Himmel Dies From Cancer

It is a sad morning here in San Diego county. Long time news, radio and TV personality Larry Himmel has died. Larry had been a staple in the San Diego news community for nearly 40 years but lost his battle with cancer last night. He was sometimes refered to, tounge in cheek, as the godfather of San Diego. If you needed something done, especially in the radio/tv/news arena, he was the man to approach. Radio show The DSC even credited him with them getting their show back on the air after the kerfuffle at another radio station. Whether or not...

Fall Colors In The Sierras: Fishing at Rock Creek

There are few things as beautiful as the Sierras in the fall. The only downside to it is that this season has a short shelf life in the Sierra Mountains near Mammoth Lakes. It seems to go from a few weeks of summer straight into winter and all its snow covered glory. But these few weeks of fall are glorious, especially if you like hiking and camping in the Sierra mountains. This is the perfect time of year to take advantage of the cooling temperatures before it gets down right frigid. Our friend make the hike to Rock Creek, a well known...

Meet The Man Behind Mod Palm Springs

This weekend marks the start of Modweek Palm Springs! A full week in the fall that celebrates much of the Southern California dessert community’s mid century heritage. Well, it is that, but also a great big party with mid-century themes. There is no other place better than Palm Springs to indulge in the celebration of the design, architecture and nostalgia of the mid 1900s. I was able to interview the organizer of Mod-Palm Springs, Rory Snyder, and he was able to share some insights into what this fabulous week of fun is all about....
