San Diego Holiday Bowl USC vs Nebraska On The Field Photos & VIDEO
It was a football lover’s week here in San Diego. I mean, besides the San Diego Chargers losing and not making it into the playoffs last night. Two bowl games played over the week brought out a lot of the home team spirit. First Navy played San Diego State University in the Poinsettia Bowl and then, USC played Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl. While USC and Navy are not considered home town they do have close ties to the Southern California lifestyle and there were more than enough fans to go around.
A small group of us from BusyBeeBlogger.com were able to grab tickets to the Holiday bowl, complete with VIP treatment. The parking lot had a special “tailgate” section just for VIP members. There was a great assortment of food, oh hello strawberry shortcake, as well as beer and wine. The USC and Nebraska marching bands also played while everyone enjoyed the food.
Once inside, we got a great surprise: an on field tour during the opening ceremonies. What an amazing experience to be on the filed with the two teams as their bands both took the fields to get the fans excited.
There were also former Navy Seals parachuting in and landing on the field, and a giant American flag unfurled to the National Anthem. It was all quite moving, and exciting.
During the game, it was terribly cold, for southern California, and the hot chocolate was everywhere you looked. We were seated in what appeared to be the Nebraska section, with sprinkles of USC fans. Everyone was quite friendly, and we saw no issues between fans, which is a nice change from the professional football games that I have been to at Qualcomm.
In the end, USC took home the win for the Holiday Bowl but the Nebraska fans were amazing.
