Movie Review “2 Jacks” Starring Danny Huston, Jack Huston & Sienna Miller

Earlier, I told you how I was sitting down to watch 2 Jacks, starring Danny Huston, Jack Huston, Jacqueline Bisset and Sienna Miller. This retelling of Leo Tolstoy’s short story Two Hussars, bring the characters into a modern Hollywood story filled with glamour and mistakes. A director who is on his way out, another on his way up, beautiful women, decadent parties, gambling, back room deals and late nights.

In this comical adaptation, we get to be a fly on the wall for two parallel night-in-the-life adventures of Jack Hussar (Danny Huston) and his son Jack Hussar, Jr. (Jack Huston from Boardwalk Empire). Jack the older is a struggling on his way down director who is trying to get his career back on track, or at least a room at his favorite hotel. We follow Jack as he goes through various Hollywood parties, wheeling for a new imaginary movie to get made. Filled with beautiful women, plenty of drinks, Jack seems almost hell bent on throwing it all away before he can even grab it. He does manage to grab hold of a beautiful woman, Diana (played by Sienna Miller). Will Jack, despite the rest of his choices, manage to treat well, at least for the night?

Decades later, his very handsome son, Jack Jr. returns to Hollywood, picking up where his father left off. The first time director is here to make a movie, and he runs into the now older Diana  (Jacqueline Bisset) and her equally beautiful daughter. Will Jack Jr. make the same decisions of his father decades earlier? Or will he take a different direction?

I really did enjoy this movie, especially Danny Huston’s performance. He is at once attractive, rough, and humorous in his role at the disillusioned once top of the world director. He’s a little bit Humphrey Bogart, with an Anthony Bourdain twist. At no time do you feel sad for Jack, but rather you are applauding his decisions even if you don’t quite understand how he can be doing them at the time.

I would HIGHLY recommend you see this movie in the theater starting Friday, the 18th. If it is not playing near you, 2 Jacks is currently available with Video On Demand. Seriously. Get some popcorn, a cocktail, and settle in for a great film.
