“Life Tracker” – Movie Review
“If DNA could predict your future… would you want to know?”
The movie Life Tracker takes on the premise of knowing your future with a new twist. Could your DNA really tell you who you will become, and when and how you will die? How would knowing change the life you’re living, now?
Life Tracker follows documentarian, Dillion, as he follows the rise of Life Tracker Limited, a DNA reading company, and just what the company’s readings can lead to. He has no idea that he is really telling the story of his own life and future.
Can LTL really tell your future, like some high tech fortune teller? Is what they’re selling all a hoax? Are they just following the P. T. Barnum adage of “A sucker is born every minute”? And, can it really predict the end of life as we know it? This idea of being able to tell your future based on DNA is fascinating. Especially with all of the advances in the use of DNA to predict diseases being so prevalent in our news cycle currently. Do we really want to know?
In the near future, a new device has emerged to detect the time of death of every man’s life through DNA analysis. A modern day palm reading, the device has ignited fear and paranoia throughout the world. The film follows an aspiring filmmaker, Dillon (Barry Finnegan), who chronicles the hysteria and stumbles upon the mystery behind LIFE TRACKER Limited, the company behind the device. With the help of his friends, Scott (Matt Dallas) and Bell (Rebecca Marshall), they embark on a thrilling journey to find the real story behind the science, testing their friendship and faith along the way. Are the predictions true? Is a person’s lifespan ingrained in one’s DNA? The race is on to uncover the truth.
The movie can be a little slow, especially being told point of view style ala The Blair Witch. But you really get to know the characters and see them in a not polished way. Much like if you just followed your friends around for a couple of years and edited it all together. But I suggest you stick with it, watching the concept of how knowing your future changes your current life is intriguing. And the last 20 minutes makes it worth while, in my opinion.
You can watch LIFE TRACKER on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube and cable VOD (see all options here).
