Fashion’s Night Out Taking a “Hiatus”
What started four years ago, thanks in part to fashion’s go to decider, Anna Wintour with Vogue, as a way to boost the NYC economy, is now taking a break. Fashion’s Night Out made an announcement today.
Fashion’s Night Out will go on hiatus in the United States in 2013. We are grateful to everyone that made FNO the most anticipated shopping night of the year, four years in a row. We owe its success to so many: to the thousands of retailers and their teams who spent months planning the events we came to love and enjoy; to all the designers, celebrities, sports heroes, and musicians who joined us on our special night and made each celebration even more thrilling. But most of all, we owe its achievements to you—the millions who chose to share your night with us and, in doing so, demonstrated your steadfast support for the fashion industry. It’s because of you that we were able to raise over $1.5 million for the New York City AIDS Fund in the New York Community Trust. So, we wanted to take this moment to say “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts. [Facebook]
And it seems that it is just FNO in the United States that is being axed. The show will still happen this September in cities around the world.
I guess it did get a little too big. It started out as small exclusive events, and then I could find it at my local outlet mall. :-/ I’m not saying that it was BAD, and probably did bring in some MUCH NEEDED cashflow to the local businesses, it just made it another day of shopping, the festiveness of it kind of lost its sparkle.
