Elton John To Adopt? Not So Fast
He may be a very dramatic, temper tantrum having diva, but there was someone who melted Elton John’s heart enough to maybe change his ways.
While touring an orphanage in the Ukraine, Elton John and his husband David Furnish fell in love with a toddler.
The singer told reporters that his partner, David Furnish, “always wanted to adopt a child and I always said no, because I am 62 and because of the traveling I do.”
But after meeting Lev, a Ukranian toddler, “I’ve changed my mind . . . I would love to adopt him,” John, adding of the potential bureaucratic hurdles: “I don’t know how we would do that but he has stolen my heart.”
But don’t rush to Babys-R-Us just yet. The Ukrainian government isn’t all that ready to let Elton and David adopt little Lev. Family, Youth and Sports Minister Yuriy said that Elton is too old, 62, and unmarried. (Ukraine does not recognize homosexual unions as marriages)
Elton said that he was inspired to adopt the tot after the death of his good friend keyboardist Guy Babylon.
“He was such a genius and so young and has two wonderful children,” said John. “What better opportunity to replace someone I lost than to replace him with someone I can give a future to.”
