Colin Firth LOVED Playing The Fool
One of my favorite actors and star of The King’s Speech, Colin Firth, said that during the filming of Mama Mia, he relished the idea that he played the fool with his co-stars. It wasn’t just Firth singing the ABBA hits, but he was joined by other heavy hitters Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep!
“I think dignity can be a little overrated. I just relished making a fool of myself, really, along with all these rather serious actors.
“There was a fantastic kind of recklessness to it; every time we finished a take, we would look at each other and blanch. What on earth were we doing? Committing career suicide? That audiences liked it was very gratifying. Really, it’s one of the experiences I regret least in my life.” [FF]
I still haven’t watched Mama Mia, but I would love to see Firth singing ABBA. I love him in Bridget Jones, Love Actually, and of course A Single Man. It doesn’t seem that he shies away from anything, really.
What do you think of his new movie The King’s Speech? I’m such a Firth fan that I am going to see it as soon as I can.
