With all of the celebrating, I was wondering why there were not any official Lunar New Year cocktail recipes being shared. Don’t most celebrations deserve their own festive spirited drink? So, we found a way to incorporate Baijiu? into a cocktail just in time for the New Year celebrations. Our Guayaba Kiss cocktail recipe mixes the traditional Chinese distilled liquor with guava and strawberry. Quite refreshing with the vibrant red color for luck.
You may be asking “What is Baijiu?“
Baijiu is a distinct Chinese grain liquor that has been around for over 600 years, some say over 2,000 years!
Traditionally, baijiu was used to celebrate important events and welcome newcomers. Today, baijiu is a symbol for diplomacy and a way to celebrate life. It is consumed during celebratory situations as well as for casual daily consumption…
Baijiu is distinct from Brandy, Scotch Whiskey and Vodka because of its use of distilling yeast during the distillation process. It is also the only one to use solid grain material in the fermentation process.
We are planning a trip to visit Bejing later this year, so tasting some of the local Baijiu is a must on our list. Who are we to turn down a symbol of diplomacy when in a foreign country? It would just be rude to not enjoy all that they had to offer.

Guayaba Kiss – Chinese New Year Baijiu Cocktail
- Guayaba Kiss
- 1 ¼ oz. Mianzhu Daqu Laohao Baijiu
- ½ oz. Strawberry puree
- 3 ½ oz. Guava juice
- Strawberry for garnish
- Place the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes and shake well. Pour contents with ice into the glass. Garnish with a strawberry.
- This would look especially beautiful if poured into a tall glass with a gold trimmed lip.
