21st Annual Mardi Gras In San Diego Gaslamp

San Diego Mardi Gras Celebration

Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, 2015 is tomorrow, do you have your plans set yet? If you are in San Diego, and want to have fun in the Gaslamp, there is a Mardi Gras event that is perfect for you. The 21st Annual Mardi Gras is back in Southern California, and it is going to be huge.

The 21st Annual Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp, running from 5:00 p.m. to Midnight, we will be shutting down 16 blocks in the Gaslamp Quarter, erecting 5 stages of pure madness, and bringing in the nation’s most electrifying talent! Prepare yourself to be immersed into a celebration with epic bands, DJs, dance crews, acrobats, visual artists and even Snoopadelic, aka Snoop Dogg.

WHEN: Tuesday, February 17th – 5:00 PM to Midnight

WHERE: The main gates will be located on 5th Avenue and Broadway, as well as 5th Avenue and K St.

THE PARADE: You can’t have a party without a parade. Welcome back The Big Easy Parade to this year’s extravagant Mardi Gras celebration! The parade will travel down Fifth Avenue, where you can expect an explosion of sound and visual splendor with multiple music groups, roving performers and specialty acts from 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., readying the crowd for the traditional, New Orleans-like floats parade, including a 75-member gospel choir, the Burning Man float, and over 80 additional units! The Celebrity Grand Marshal officially starts the “Parade of Floats” at 9:30 p.m. featuring 40 OVER-THE-TOP designs continuing down Fifth Avenue with an eruption of energy until 10:30 p.m.

$30 for general admission and $80 for VIP until February 6th,
$35 for General Admission and $100 for VIP until February 16th
$40 for General Admission and $120 for VIP on the day of the event.

Gaslamp Area Street Closures

With this huge event also comes street closures. If you work or are visiting the San Diego area, here is the list of times those will be happening.

SET UP TIME: February 17th, 2015
12:01 AM – Streets closing & rentals set-up
1:00 AM – Staging & Lighting load in
6:00 AM – 4:00 PM – General Production
5:00 PM – Celebration begins

All of this revelry isn’t just for the fun of it. This Mardi Gras celebration helps to raise funds for the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation in San Diego. The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to promoting the Gaslamp Quarter National Historic District’s businesses, restaurants and shops.
