Vista’s Strawberry Festival 2013

This past weekend, Vista held it’s 2013 Strawberry Festival.  Main street was shut down so the town could celebrate the big beautiful strawberry.

It was filled of family fun, hey look is that a giant strawberry walking around?, as well as bands and a beer garden for the adults.  Food, drink, street fair, rides, more food, and a few races to burn off all those shortcakes.

The merchants on Main St. took this as a major opportunity to introduce themselves to the public.  There has been a renaissance in downtown Vista, and there are now many new restaurants, and stores on Main St.  including a brewery and Fifty Barrels Winery just moved in as well!  There is also an organic apothecary that just opened it’s doors.

Not bad for an area people avoided five years ago!  This place is really coming back to life, and people kept telling me all day that they are really excited to see new businesses moving in.

Well done Vista, well done!

See Bee Run: La Jolla Half Marathon SUNDAY 4/28/2013

mizuno running shoes half marathon

It’s running season, so that means that there will be a race every weekend here in SoCal… somewhere near you. This weekend one will be in La Jolla. The La Jolla Half Marathon is the middle oreo filling for the Half Marathon Triple Crown bookended by the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January and the American’s Finest City Half in August. It begins in Del Mar around 7:30 AM and ends at La Jolla Cove at around 10:30AM.

This pinup will be running, walking, huffing and puffing her way through the 13.1 miles, and Torrey Pines *omg is that a HILL?* in search for my first Triple Crown accomplishment. Yeah I’ve done the Oceanside Half Ironman, so this is a new challenge.

If you live in the area, please check out the La Jolla Half’s information page to see about road closures, and areas to avoid if you won’t be coming down to cheer people on. If you wanted to go hang in La Jolla on Sunday just for kicks be prepared for tons of people and even less parking that usual.

See you there!

Carlsbad Marathon & Half TODAY!!!

race day prep carlsbad half marathon 2013

Good morning little bees and pinups.

It’s race day, so that means I have been up since 4:30. Luckily I still get to have my cup of coffee before we take off.

If you are in San Diego north county, please be aware of the street closures, and how they might impact your plans. Or you could always come down to cheer on the 1,500 marathon runners and 8,500 half marathon runners. We’d love to have you there.

If you cannot make it to the race, you can always follow your favorite runner online. There are directions here.

Just please, if you see us making a beeline for the porta potty, let us use it first. We’ll really appreciate it.

WISH ME LUCK!!

Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon Jan 27 2013

carlsbad marathon

After months of training, and early (cold) mornings, it’s finally here. The Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon will begin Sunday morning.

For those who want to watch and sup support their neighbors, friends, and family, the full marathon begins at 6:15AM, and the half takes off in waves starting at 7:45. That is a crazy late start time IMO, but we will just have to deal with it.

Want to know if you can hop to Starbucks while waiting for your bff to come around your spot on the sidewalk? You can TRACK THEIR PROGRESS online with your smartphone or computer. Just type in their name or bib number. (This one works much better than the Ironman tracker. Imjustsaying.

If you head out tomorrow, you might even see me huffin’ and puffin’ along the coast :-)

Come down and cheer us all on!!!

Lance Armstrong's Response to crash

johan-lance

As you know by now, Lance Armstrong broke his right collar bone (clavicle) and is out of the Castilla y Leon 5 day race in Spain.

Tonight, he is having wine and cheese with Team Astana coach Johan Bruyneel (above pic) and then off to bed. That boy is in some pain and must be tired and frustrated.

In response to the crash Lance had this to say via the Astana Team site

Additional Comments from Lance Armstrong from Hospital Clínico Universitario of Valladolid where a fracture of the middle third of the right collar bone was diagnosed:

- How did the crash happen?

“At the end of the race, people started to get a bit excited to win the race. Everybody wanted to be in the front and couple of guys crashed in front of me, crossed the wheels and I hit them over the top. It happens quick when it happens. It could have been worse, I suppose. I have road rash abrasions on right hip and arm but the big problem is the broken collarbone. I never had this before. It is pretty painful. Now we must have to see how it heals. I will go back to the US and there we will decide on surgery.”

- You must be very disappointed. Is the Giro participation in jeopardy?

“I am very disappointed. Very. Especially for the Giro. Now the biggest problem is the pain. It hurts. We will see. The guys in the hospital in Valladolid were great and very nice and helpful. But now I feel miserable. I need to relax a couple of days, fix the problem and make a plan. I hope I can tell you more about the Giro in a week.”

- You almost never crash.

“I was thinking the same thing in the hospital that this never happened in my 17 years of pro cycling. That’s cycling. It’s nobody’s fault. Crashes happen all the time. It is part of the job.”

If you want to send well wishes you can send them to LiveStrong’s Twitter, and if you tag it #livestrong it will be posted on their blog as well!

Pics are from today’s race in Spain, and of Lance leaving the hospital.
