La Jolla Half Marathon Celebrates Boston “Sweet Caroline” VIDEO #bostonstrong

The La Jolla Half Marathon was on Sunday, and I am still recovering. 13.1 miles along the Southern California coastline was gorgeous but tough!

Joe for The Marathon Show put together this video to show our support for Boston! We as runners hold a certain type of brotherhood, and we all send our love and prayers to the city.

You may even catch a very tired pinup in there somewhere. Just look close enough.

xoxo

See Bee Run: La Jolla Half Marathon SUNDAY 4/28/2013

It’s running season, so that means that there will be a race every weekend here in SoCal… somewhere near you. This weekend one will be in La Jolla. The La Jolla Half Marathon is the middle oreo filling for the Half Marathon Triple Crown bookended by the Carlsbad Half Marathon in January and the American’s Finest City Half in August. It begins in Del Mar around 7:30 AM and ends at La Jolla Cove at around 10:30AM.

This pinup will be running, walking, huffing and puffing her way through the 13.1 miles, and Torrey Pines *omg is that a HILL?* in search for my first Triple Crown accomplishment. Yeah I’ve done the Oceanside Half Ironman, so this is a new challenge.

If you live in the area, please check out the La Jolla Half’s information page to see about road closures, and areas to avoid if you won’t be coming down to cheer people on. If you wanted to go hang in La Jolla on Sunday just for kicks be prepared for tons of people and even less parking that usual.

See you there!

Dear G-d. There have been TWO reported explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. At least three reported dead, dozens injured.

The elite had finished about two hours prior.

FROM WCVB.COM

BOSTON —Two explosions have been reported near the Boston Marathon finish line on Boylston Street as thousands of people gathered for the race, and there are reports of injuries.

At least two explosions were reported at the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday.

The blasts happened at about 2:50 p.m. near the intersection of Boylston and Exeter streets.

The first explosion happened across from the Lenox Hotel and the second blast was about 15 seconds later, witnesses said.

“I was turning the corner. I was near the Hynes (Convention) Center. I saw two explosions. I just turned around and ran. It was a fireball — a huge fireball,” one runner said.

Store fronts have been blown out, and there have been reports of dozens of injuries. A Boston police officer is said to be among the injured.

Witnesses said several victims lost limbs, the race was stopped and the area is being evacuated.

Many of the injured appeared to be spectators who gathered for the 117th running of the race.

NewsCenter 5′s Sean Kelly said the impact of the explosions could be felt blocks away.

The victims were being taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

This is the Holy Grail of marathon running. I usually know SOMEONE who is planning on competing, but this year, they decided not to go. This is supposed to be the best day of these runners’ lives, not this. NOT THIS!

Carlsbad Marathon & Half TODAY!!!

race day prep carlsbad half marathon 2013

Good morning little bees and pinups.

It’s race day, so that means I have been up since 4:30. Luckily I still get to have my cup of coffee before we take off.

If you are in San Diego north county, please be aware of the street closures, and how they might impact your plans. Or you could always come down to cheer on the 1,500 marathon runners and 8,500 half marathon runners. We’d love to have you there.

If you cannot make it to the race, you can always follow your favorite runner online. There are directions here.

Just please, if you see us making a beeline for the porta potty, let us use it first. We’ll really appreciate it.

WISH ME LUCK!!

Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon Jan 27 2013

carlsbad marathon

After months of training, and early (cold) mornings, it’s finally here. The Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon will begin Sunday morning.

For those who want to watch and sup support their neighbors, friends, and family, the full marathon begins at 6:15AM, and the half takes off in waves starting at 7:45. That is a crazy late start time IMO, but we will just have to deal with it.

Want to know if you can hop to Starbucks while waiting for your bff to come around your spot on the sidewalk? You can TRACK THEIR PROGRESS online with your smartphone or computer. Just type in their name or bib number. (This one works much better than the Ironman tracker. Imjustsaying.

If you head out tomorrow, you might even see me huffin’ and puffin’ along the coast :-)

Come down and cheer us all on!!!
