How to work Nautical without Looking Like Shirley Temple

Modern retro style may sound incongruent, but trust me it’s not. Especially when it comes to nautical style. This is something that can easily become a complete costume mess (which I often revel in for the kitch of it all), but with these updated pieces you can carry this off.

Even if you choose to look like a WW2 poster. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

To appease my loved ones, I will often just wear one or two nautical pieces. Not the entire Shirley Temple head to toe that I sometimes end up with. Get some canvas shoes, and an anchor necklace, with a white t-shirt and shorts, and you have a go to summer staple.

A purse with a nautical nod can go with everything over the summer. Especially picnics, or barbecues that are ubiquitous as sunburns.

Don’t forget the swimsuits.

This blue maxi dress isn’t the maxi dress you’ll see at Coachella. This is one I can wear to graduations, weddings, and events all summer long. Heck, this is SoCal, I can probably wear this to Thanksgiving or Christmas parties. Haha.

The floral belt is removable. So if you want to take the fancy level down a bit you can.
