Fall Colors In The Sierras: Fishing at Rock Creek

The Colors of the tress turn for the fall. Sierra mountains fall does not last long enjoy hiking camping and fishing while it lasts

There are few things as beautiful as the Sierras in the fall. The only downside to it is that this season has a short shelf life in the Sierra Mountains near Mammoth Lakes. It seems to go from a few weeks of summer straight into winter and all its snow covered glory. But these few weeks of fall are glorious, especially if you like hiking and camping in the Sierra mountains. This is the perfect time of year to take advantage of the cooling temperatures before it gets down right frigid.

Our friend make the hike to Rock Creek, a well known camping and fishing spot in the Sierras, and sent us this video. I love that you can see the fish in the clear creek water, but they obviously just are not biting the hooks that day. I guess it is not all bad when you have a view like that, right?

There is some talk on the video about looking for bald eagles while waiting for the fish to bite there at Rock Creek. Have any of you seen bald eagles while hiking or camping in the Sierra Mountains here in California? I guess even if you miss out on the fish, or the eagles, you really are not at a loss of beautiful things to see. Those mountain views really do give you something to look at no matter what else is going on there.

What do you guys think? Is the hike worth it to put your fishing line in the water at Rock Creek in the Sierra Mountains? Do you have any favorite places to go camping where you are?

I would love to hear it.

DIY – How-to Paint A Diamond Pattern On Living Room Wall

Take an afternoon and redo your living room with this simple painting DIY.

Is your living room looking a little blah? Want to add a little plash of color to a bedroom, office, or your dining room? This diamond pattern living room painting how-to is easy and FAST! We took a 90 inch wide by 104 inch high section of my living room and painted this Do It Yourself diamond pattern on it in 2 hours. That includes the drying time for the paint! You can easily do this painting DIY over the weekend with a friend.

I chose a wall in my living room to paint. I already liked the color that was there, but I wanted to add a blue/grey paint to it. I like the contrast of the tan/blue. If you do not already like the color of the wall you will be painting, paired with the color of the diamonds that you want, this will take longer. You will first need the entire area you will be putting the diamond design onto to be painted the color you want to show through. Like I said, I already like the tan color I had on the wall, so this cut down on application time for me. If you are painting from scratch this will be a two day project, just to be safe.

What you will need -

  • measuring tape
  • pencil (do NOT use a pen they bleed through paint)
  • 1 1/2 inch painter tape
  • paint brush
  • tarp to cover floor
  • paint
  • 6 foot ladder
  • and a friend to help

Meet The Man Behind Mod Palm Springs

Mod Palm Springs interview with rory snyder

This weekend marks the start of Modweek Palm Springs! A full week in the fall that celebrates much of the Southern California dessert community’s mid century heritage. Well, it is that, but also a great big party with mid-century themes. There is no other place better than Palm Springs to indulge in the celebration of the design, architecture and nostalgia of the mid 1900s.

I was able to interview the organizer of Mod-Palm Springs, Rory Snyder, and he was able to share some insights into what this fabulous week of fun is all about.

Cocktail Recipe Thursday: Cozy Hot Toddy

Halloween Drink Recipes Hot Toddy

Fall Cocktails

October is when this southern California lifestyle blogger starts looking for new Halloween drink recipes, and fall drink recipes. One good way to make easy mixed drinks with a fall inspiration is to add in apple or cinnamon. Warm that up and you have something that will keep you cozy all autumn long.

On deck today for Cocktail Thursday is one of the new fall drink recipes, the Cozy Hot Toddy. Using Sparkling ICE instead of traditional apple cider cuts down on the sugar and calories considerably. I mean, I would rather eat a slice of apple pie than drink my calories this fall, am I right?

Get the recipe for the Cozy Hot Toddy after the jump!

New Thanksgiving Recipe: CHIPOTLE CARROT SALAD

chipotle mayo recipe from just mayo

New Thanksgiving Recipes

There is nothing more predictable than Thanksgiving dinner.  Though very tasty it is usually this: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy.  Add in some green beans if you’re feeling festive.  But why not add something new to the Thanksgiving dinner?  This chipotle carrot salad recipe would also be a great addition onto the table for Thanksgiving.  The usually starch heavy Thanksgiving dinner can use a little more vegetable recipes if you ask me. While there is nothing on the table I don’t like during the holidays this new Thanksgiving recipe would add a nice spice to a usually mellow Thanksgiving dinner.   If you are looking to stay away questionable ingredients, you can start with the mayonnaise.  Just Mayo is non-GMO, gluten-free, soy free, dairy-free, lactose-free, and cholesterol-free. And once you get the mayo taken care of, throw some heat into it with chipotle!  POW!
