Cocktail Recipe Thursday: Frozen Spicy Raspberry Margarita

Pearl Frush Pinup on the beach red swim suit sombrero Mexico

Summer is sadly coming to an end, unofficially. School has started up again here in Southern California, and Labor Day is just around the corner. Do not that let stop you from embracing the fact that summer is still here, don’t get so ahead of yourself. Before you know it we will all be drowning in pumpkin spice, so don’t rush it.

Today’s Cocktail Recipe is easy peezey, and to me, summer in a glass. The frozen margarita does not get the love it deserves most of the time. It is almost an adult slurpee, but a little more sour, which is what I like in a cocktail. This version of the frozen margarita has lime of course, but gets a little more pucker power from the raspberries and heat from jalapeno peppers! Oh my. These would be perfect for a South Of The Border themed party, or just a last hurrah before the coats and mittens are thrust upon us all.

frozen spicy raspberry jalapeno margarita

INGREDIENTS:
4 oz. frozen raspberry purée (see recipe below)
2 oz. Blue Nectar® Silver tequila
Lime wheel, for garnish
For the purée:
1 package frozen raspberries (8 oz.)
Fresh jalapeño slices, to taste (start with four, adding more as desired)
6 oz. fresh lime juice
4 oz. triple sec
Purée berries and jalapeño slices in a blender; once at desired level of spice (keep in mind that Blue Nectar Silver has peppery spice notes, as well) stir in fresh lime juice and triple sec.

DIRECTIONS:
Make the purée; then shake over a portion over ice, together with Blue Nectar Silver. Pour into glass, and garnish with lime wheel.

You might want to warn your friends that there is an added kick to their delicious summer sun filled margaritas. While very yummy, they may not appreciate the heat if not warned ahead of time. Or you could also just wait to see their reactions.

CHEERS!

Easy Sunday Morning Breakfast

ozery bakery morning rounds and egg for breakfast

Sundays are my favorite morning. This is usually when I am able to take a moment from whatever excitement I had the night before, pour myself a nice cup of tea, and take my time getting breakfast. This weekend, some of us in the house were recovering from a lot of fun from the night before. This easy breakfast, with Ozery morning rounds, filled the bill of an easy, delicious, and even healthy breakfast fast to make up for the night before.

With the Ozery morning rounds, you can either get the snack size, that I especially like since they are only 70 calories each, or the regular sized morning rounds. These are about the size of an english muffin. I like to cut mine in half and toast them, but you can also warm them in the oven, or even use them as the base for french toast (OMG good).

Dig that crazy scene, daddio. San Diego is going to be invaded by beatnik tiki fans this weekend and it is going to be a happenin’ time.

Every year, Tiki Oasis takes over San Diego with the biggest Tiki Weekender in the world, and every year there is a new theme.  This year it is beatnik themed, so expect a lot of cigarette pants, stripes, and berets in addition to the leis, tropical flowers in lovely ladies’ hair, and sarongs.  It’s going to be quite a cra-zy mash-up of styles all over Southern California.

While most of the events for Tiki Oasis require tickets, there are a few events that are open to the public and are free!  The car show that starts Saturday and art show that begins tonight.

Still not quite sure what Tiki Oasis beatnic theme is all about?  Check this out…

Tiki Oasis’ “Beat-Tiki” weekender offers a unique pairing of the Beatnik and Tiki ethos. Like the Beat Generation of legend and lore, today’s Tiki aficionados are drawn to primitivism and thirst to reconnect with the primal past, celebrating it in a modern context. Spend a carefree weekend in an urban oasis amidst fellow barefoot bohemians, reveling in the kind of art, music, literature and mixology that is sure to flip your lid! [Tikioasis.com]
