Hyatt Palm Springs Hotel – Review

A mural of the Palm Springs sign welcomes guests at the Hyatt Palm Springs hotel

There is just something about Palm Springs that restores my soul. Between the history of the town, the beauty of the desert and mountains, and the drive you make to get there, I am always in a good mood driving into town. Palm Springs is the perfect distance from Los Angeles and San Diego: just far enough away that people won’t invite themselves but close enough that you can leave at a moment’s notice.

The Hyatt Palm Springs offered affordable indulgence with their comfortable bedding

When looking for a place to stay during a Southern California road trip to Palm Springs we knew we wanted to stay a nice hotel that was central to everything. We love being able to just leave and walk to wherever it is we can to go. We booked the Hyatt Palm Springs, and it was perfect for what we were looking for. The Hyatt Palm Springs is central to everywhere we wanted to be. Tonga Hut, a favorite tiki bar of mine where I saw the Martini Kings play, is across the street.

On the outside of the Hyatt Palm Springs are fountains and in the evening entertainment on the patio

The style of the hotel is very mid-century meets 21st century. More of nod to Palm Springs’ past than a recreation. There are curtains/room dividers made of metal, and plenty of glass throughout. All of this is balanced with the pops of color and fabric in the large communal spaces.

A modern work desk was available as part of the large hotel room at the Hyatt Palm Springs

All of the rooms at the Hyatt Palm Springs are suites that include sitting areas separate from the bedroom. By the end of our stay we were quite comfortable snuggling up on the couch reading, and watching the aquarium channel on the TV. (There is a feed on one of the channels that has a colorful aquarium on 24 hours a day.)

The living are of the Hyatt Palm Springs hotel room was contemporary with a stylish and comfortable couch and good lighting

If you want to take a dip, there is a pool at the Hyatt Palm Springs. It is smaller than in some of the newer hotels, but it is just the right size if all you want is to jump and and cool off. Surrounding the pool are cabanas, and lounge chairs with umbrellas. But if you want one of the prime areas I suggest you get to the pool early. I hopped down at 10AM and all of the umbrellas had been taken, and it was just too hot of a day for me to lay in the sun.

Our most favorite perk of the hotel is how close it is to downtown. We tend to walk everywhere and the Palm Springs Hyatt is within walking distance to most everything downtown.  If you need a ride further into town you can schedule a lift on the shuttle.

The Hyatt Palm Springs hotel room was roomy and more than we expected

We really enjoyed our stay at the Palm Springs Hyatt and would most definitely suggest that anyone wanting to spend time in downtown Palm Springs stay here. The rooms are clean and spacious with a midcentury nod in design. Just be sure to get your spot at the pool early if you want an umbrella.
