Top Baby Names Inspired by Pop Culture [Guest Post]

Rocker Gavin Rossdale with his sons Kingston and Zuma.

As Shakespeare so famously penned, what’s in a name anyway? Will an Apple by any other moniker still be recognized as the ridiculously indulged child of pretentious superstar parents?

Baby Name Trends… Becoming More Normal?

It may be a good sign that, according to a recent Huffington Post story, the top baby names inspired by pop culture phenomenon have recently take a turn for the classics. Heroes from Jane Austen and other Victoriana-drivel are suddenly making the grade – ousting recent favorites such as Edward, Bella, Harry and Hermione.

But it all leaves me wondering how people named their children before ready access to every move a celebrity makes was sent to them on four different devices AND highlighted on the homepage of their search engine of choice. You know, all that essential information that drowns out any other, irrelevant news (like what’s going on in Afghanistan) that might distract them from the endless fame-mongering fodder that holds the answers to not only what you should be wearing this season, but what name you should curse your poor, not famous, not privileged, not sparkly, normal, everyday child with.

Duran Duran "Girl Panic" Brings Back The Era Of Supermodels

Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Eva Herzigova, Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon channel Duran Duran

Duran Duran are caught up in a “Girl Panic” and so am I!  The video for DD’s latest single is FILLED with my 90s icons, the Supermodels.

Clad in sexy Dolce & Gabbana the ladies play various members of the band, partying hard at the Savoy hotel.  They’re being interviewed by the REAL members of Duran Duran, who make cameos as bell hops, journalists, and room service.

I really do miss the age of rock stars and super models.  When music and fashion collided on our TV screens.  Watching “Girl Panic” made me instantly think of George Michael’s “Freedom 90″. Naomi and Cindy were also in that fashion filled gorgeously shot video.

Oh, and magazines weren’t splashed with so called celebrities!   It amazes me that the idea that Haper’s Bazaar UK has the supermodels on the cover, and a nice fashion spread based on the DD video inside is making headlines.  It’s fashion, it should be filled with supermodels and rock stars again.  :-)

And I have to say that the ladies and the boys have held their own over the years.

Song Of The Day: Linda Ronstadt "You

Feeling better now that we’re through
Feeling better ’cause I’m over you
I learned my lesson, it left a scar
Now I see how you really are

You’re no good
You’re no good
You’re no good
Baby you’re no good

I could listen to this vinyl over and over with my giant can headphones on laying on the floor singing my little lungs out.
