Elton John is a popular music icon; even if you don’t listen to his music, you know who he is. Easily recognizable by his array of sunglasses and elaborate outfits, it is no surprise that there is a biopic in the works. “Rocketman” does not yet have anyone to take on the role of Sir Elton himself, but Scottish actor James McAvoy is rumored to be the frontrunner. We thought we’d come up with a few ideas ourselves.
Justin Timberlake
This is not as far of a stretch as you may think. He was a convincing Elton John in the “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore” video and certainly has the musical talent for the role. Timberlake has been acting for some time now, so that would work for his benefit. Besides, who doesn’t want more Justin Timberlake in their lives?
Ewan McGregor
A popular choice among fans, Ewan McGregor definitely has the acting talent, starring in his fair share of movies already. He has even starred as a ‘70s rocker, so we know he could pull off the same glam as Elton John.
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Philip most likely won’t make it as the headliner, but he does have the acting chops and looks similar to Elton. Perhaps a part later in the film, closer to the present, would suit him best.
Ben Folds
One of the few on the list that isn’t really an actor, Ben Folds is a talented musician. He looks strikingly similar to the younger Elton John and they’re both primarily pianists.
Pete Wentz
With both acting and music experience, this Fall Out Boy bassist has the talent to play the lead role. He even has a young son, only a couple years older than Elton’s. However, Pete’s history as a punk-rocker may not help him convince fans he is the Rocket Man.
Mike Myers
Can’t you already hear his impression of Elton? He could pull off the appearance without question, but I’m not so sure this is a good idea, unless they’re going for a comedy?

Dita has a bit of a collection going of classic cars, but this is the first with air conditioning and an automatic gear shift.
Can you imagine seeing Dita rolling around Los Angeles in this thing? It’d be like an apparition of a time gone by. I wonder if she has driving gloves…
