I’ve always liked this song, but I watched that slow burn of a movie “The Lincoln Lawyer” with cabana boy the other night, and it closed out the final scene. I got busted grooving along to it.
AND Target is using it in their new Vintage Varsity commercial. I want to hang out with whoever they have doing their ad campaigns now. They music is just getting better and better.
It’s not much of a surprise that Pia Toscano‘s new single, ‘This Time,’ is an up-tempo ballad about overcoming odds.
9th place finisher on American Idol, Pia debuted the single on Ryan Seacrest’s July 10th “On Air” radio show. The song is a story about heart-break and finding out that her true love wasn’t what she thought it was. The song is about how she keeps her strength to move on and build up after a fall. Ugh.
Toscano’s short-lived appearance on American Idol included popular song choices by some of the world’s best divas. She tackled Whitney, Tina, Celine, and many other songs meant for big voices. She always delivered a clean performance but she didn’t make it very far on the show.
She was criticized by judges that she didn’t sing enough up-tempo selections. And she always sang the songs that Idol contestants are warned to stay away from because it’s just too hard to compare to the originals.The more daring approach worked for a while, but eventually she was kicked off American Idol finishing in 9th place.
Toscano recently signed a record deal with Interscope Records, headed by Jimmy Iovine, and her new single is written by the famous Esther Dean who has written songs for Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Rihanna,Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera and many other big name singers.
No doubt bringing Esther Dean on board, Jimmy Iovine has big plans for Pia. The top two winners of the 2011 American Idol, Scotty and Lauren, are surely going to produce albums in the Country genre, leaving the pop arena open for Pia Toscano or another of the finalists to step into. Pia certainly has the jump on her competition, getting to work as soon as possible to get a record out.
The song is okay. I could find fault with it, but I don’t think it’s getting enough attention to warrant it.
But it looks like Pia’s performance on the show is overshadowing any talent she might actually have. Critics are mixed on “This Time” so far, taking over for the Idol judges saying that she needs to give more than she did on the show since she did finish in 9th place. America liked her, but they obviously didn’t LOVE her because they sent her home just a little over half-way through on a season full of amazing vocal talent. America has plenty of amazing female vocal technicians, so if Pia wants to succeed she is going to have to show her fans more star personality and be more personable and give music listeners a reason to love her.
Currently, Pia is on tour with American Idol Live! and working on her new album. It will be released sometime after the Idols tour this summer. Let’s hope it isn’t full of up-tempo ballads, or it could be her last.

Break out of the blue booties! The Office’s Jenna Fischer is having a boy.
While on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Tuesday,he asked her if her parents were excited about becoming grandparents.
“This is the second grandchild,” …“but first grandson.” [People]
Since she opened her mouth about her baby, she just rolled with it, telling Jay it was her plan all along to give him the exclusive.
“This is the exclusive, Jay,” says Fischer, 37, who appears in the upcoming film A Little Help. “When I went to my movie premiere the other day a reporter asked me if I knew what I was having, and I said I do, but I’m not sharing that yet because I’m [going to] have Jay be the first to know.”
I wake up this morning, and all my writer friends are talking about is that Casey Anthony may be living in Carlsbad, Ca. Um, wow. That’s next door to me, about 30 miles north of San Diego.
People Magazine reports that she MAY be living in Carlsbad because a former member of her defense team, Todd Macaluso, has a private jet, and he has an office next to the Carlsbad airport. That’s a stretch considering the plane landed at John Wayne in the Orange County, CA area (near Long Beach).
Hmmm. I guess that I will keep my eye out for her, but to be honest, she looks and acts like every other 20 something living here in Carlsbad.
