With the fuss of the Royal Wedding just now beginning to settle, it seems that hats – and big hats at that – are fresh on our minds this side of the pond. With that being said, the celebrities have all been stepping out in their biggest and best hats to support this new trend. The latest to sport a rocking hat? Vanessa Minnillo.
On May 7th at the annual Kentucky Derby, Vanessa stepped out in a stylish, appropriate, and completely on trend hat for the occasion. This year marked the 137th anniversary of the Derby, so the star styles were much anticipated for this big event. And unlike the Royal Wedding, guests won’t be turned away at the door for not wearing a hat to this event, but in the grand tradition of the Derby, many show up in their wildest head gear!
Many Derby hats can often look stuffy and out of style. A true fashionista knows how to make a wide-brimmed hat or crazy birdcage-style topper look downright gorgeous! And that’s exactly what Vanessa did this weekend. The former Miss Team USA and future Mrs. Nick Lachey, donned a perfectly lovely hat that was tiny, tasteful, and oh so fun for the Kentucky Derby. Her hat was much smaller than the traditional hats you will see at the Kentucky Derby, but on Vanessa this tasteful hat worked quite well with the rest of her outfit.
And speaking of her outfit…Vanessa looked like a knock out in her Derby ensemble. The proportion on her headpiece worked perfectly with her little black dress, modest crewneck, cap sleeves, and feminine belt at her waist. Her best accessory may have been her perfectly toned and tanned legs – next to her fabulous hat, of course!
What do you think of Vanessa’s Kentucky Derby hat?

Yesterday may have been one of the hardest for fans of FOX TV shows, but one that made it was HOUSE! House was picked up for an eighth season, but is it the last? Hugh Laurie, 51, who plays the difficult, yet very attractive Dr. Gregory House said his contract is up after this season.
“The end of that [eighth] season looks like the end of the show,” Laurie reportedly told the U.K.’s Radio Times (via the New York Post). “That’s as far as they’ve got me for.”
So just how does he want it all to end?
“We don’t talk about when we’ll pack it in,” Laurie, who will soon release a blues album, Let Them Talk, says. “When the time comes, I think it would be good to have sort of a clean finish rather than just sort [of] trailing off. I’d like to go out with a bang, not a whimper.” [via US]
But don’t feel too bad for Hugh. He knows that his life isn’t too hard.
“Doing weekly TV is like joining the Navy and going on the other side of the world for 10 months of the year,” the two-time Golden Globe winner told Parade magazine. “But the truth is that whatever challenging situation you’re in, somebody somewhere has got a much more extreme version. So I think one ought to shut up and not moan about it.”
I love this man more and more. I will miss House, or rather, I will miss Hugh Laurie playing Dr. House.
