Jane Russell Has Passed Away at 89

Star of The Outlaw and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Jane Russell has passed away. She was 89.

Daughter-in-law Etta Waterfield told CNN that Russell was a “pillar of health” but caught a bad cold and died of respiratory difficulties.

Her children, Thomas K. Waterfield, Tracy Foundas and Robert “Buck” Waterfield,” were at her side, she said.

Sorry to hear of her loss. Like so many of Hollywood’s famous sex symbols, her image was very different from who she was in her personal life. She never considered herself a sex symbol at all. She was very religious, but did struggle with a drinking problem. She had an unwanted pregnancy as a teenager and was able to have children after that, so all her children were adopted. She also wasn’t the tough broad she may have appeared to be. She was a very sweet, tender-hearted person. Rest in peace, Jane.

I have to say that I am a big fan of Miss Russell’s.
Her confidence and attitude always seemed at odds with the stereotype of the female ideal of the time. And that is not a bad thing by far.
