Olympic Update: Thank you Vancouver... it's been epic

(From contributor Jon in Vancouver!)

Apologies for the lack of updates this week, I’ve been enjoying myself too much this week. I’m really tired too… today has been a roller-coaster.

The past few days have been pretty intense with Canada’s gold rush up the medal table and that hit an absolute peak today with the hockey game. After last weeks game against the USA was a tense affair and today’s was no different. When that winning goal went in, scored by Canada’s golden child, Sidney Crosby, the crowd at the bar I was at just went mental, as did I. The three USA supporters that braved the bar seemed to disappear at that point. Of course that then spilled out to the streets and I don’t think that there was one car that wasn’t honking it’s horn as it drove by…. and it’s still going on now at 8:30pm!

Now I’m not sure how the media elsewhere has portrayed the Olympics but it has been the craziest two weeks of my life. The buzz in town has been intense. There have been hundreds of thousands of people in the downtown core every day and the events and entertainment laid on by the city have been an absolute hit. I’ve seen great live music, shed a tear when Joannie Rochette danced with such passion to claim bronze, I’ve danced my butt off with 8,000 other people, I’ve met inspiring athletes, pointed visitors in the right direction, taken photo’s of visitors, watched some amazing performances, chatted with people from all over the world and just been overwhelmed with the support that the people of Vancouver have shown to all the athletes, Canadian and from elsewhere. It’s been an epic 17 days and I’m a proud Vancouverite right now.

And what about the closing ceremony? I loved the fact that they took the chance to show that this country doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Something that has become apparent to me over the past two weeks is that this country that I’ve now chosen to call home has really gotten under my skin. Now where’s that citizenship application?

The Return of the Teacup

My favorite celebrity, The Teacup, has returned.  Lady Gaga had put her in confinement for some time, but it looks like Teacup finally get her way!

The two of them were spotted leaving a hotel in London earlier today (Feb. 27)
I must say it was awfully nice for Gaga to coordinate her outfit with the Teacup.

Kathy Griffin's KISS on SVU REMOVED!

According to Kathy Griffin, her kiss with Mariska Hargitay has been REMOVED from the March 3 episode.

Kathy Griffin Awwww. Dick Wolf took out my BIG KISS w the sexxxxy Mariska H from “my” ep of L&O SVU March 3rd. … I wanna c it. (al, facebook mod, via twitter)

Whatever… this is crap.  Maybe they should just take out Mariska’s comment at the end of the scene but not the kiss.  THAT PART of the show has been making all sorts of news, and it’s the best press SVU’s gotten in a while.

Dick Wolf?  What’s the story?

In case you missed my earlier post. YOU CAN SEE THE KISS HERE!!!!

Weekend Movie Pick...Dangerous Liasons

I am blaming my friend Sean for this. He mentioned one of the few movie lines that can make my blood boil, and I’ve been thinking of the movie ALL DAY!  It was “beyond my control”.

Everyone was in this movie. Glenn Close plays evil with such glamour and poise.

Who else is in it?

John Malkovich
Michelle Pfeiffer
Uma Thurman
Keanu Reeves

Both Uma and Keanu were BABIES in this movie!!

IMDB gives this as the basic description

Rich and bored aristocrats in Rococo France play high-stakes games of passion and betrayal.

That says it all. Everyone is running one over on everyone else. No one is really innocent. And you even end up rooting for the “bad” guy.

“It’s beyond my control” will sit with you LONG after the movie is over.

THANKS SEAN!

VIDEO: Kathy Griffin Smooches Mariska Hargitay on SVU

Showing next week on Law & Order: SVU, Kathy Griffin plays a lesbian activist, who for some reason needs around the clock guarding. Luckily for her, she gets Olivia (Mariska Hargitay) to stay with her for a while. Then, BAM! Kathy kisses Mariska! She thinks “Olivia” is gay.

So let me get this right. Kathy Griffin gets cuddles from Christopher Meloni (above pic) AND kisses Mariska Hargitay? Hurumph.

Video below of the smoochies. And more pics from on set.
