Brad Pitt Joins Sherlock Holmes -UPDATE

brad pitt inglorious basterds la Premier

Not content to produce movies (the Time Traveller’s Wife), promote his own (Inglourious Basterds), or sharing WAY too much about his personal life, Brad Pitt is joining the cast of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes!  Yes, the SAME Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr, Rachel McAdams, and Jude Law that has already finished shooting!

So what will Brad be doing for the movie?  After seeing the first cut, producers wanted Ritchie’s film to focus more of Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty.  That’s where Brad steps in.

“It was an oversight in the film not to make a bigger deal about Moriarty. He is mentioned as Holmes’ arch enemy, but the bosses wanted Guy to make more of him. Jude Law (who plays Dr Watson) and Robert Downey Jr (Holmes) have already shot their scenes.

Brad and Guy have worked together before on the 2000’s Snatch where Brad played a hustling boxer.

Sherlock Holmes was originally slated to be released in December this year, but has since been pushed back to 2010.  That was BEFORE the announcement of Brad Pitt joining the cast.

“This is all such mad rush now, having such little time to get everything done,” a source tells Usmagazine.com. “There’s just a week to get this done and everyone is just praying the weather stays clear and time doesn’t run out too soon.”

Can you imagine being done with a movie, then being told months later to come back?  I’m sure it happens more than we hear.  But I’m not getting a good feeling about the movie now.

UPDATE!  It’s not true after all.  From US

“The report in today’s London Mirror is completely inaccurate. Brad Pitt is not joining the cast of Sherlock Holmes and we’re extremely pleased with the production of the film. As planned, it will be released on Christmas Day, 2009. In order to complete the movie, we’ve scheduled a few days on set to shoot a couple of additional scenes, obtain pick-up shots, and perfect some of the visual effects elements, all of which is standard filmmaking practice.”
