Lance Armstong presurgery earlier today
After finding that his break was not a “simple” two piece break, but rather four pieces, Lance Armstrong’s 90 minute surgery turned into three hours! In that time doctors put in a five inch plate and 12 screws into Lance Armstrong’s collarbone (clavicle). OUCH!
But don’t worry, Lance’s manager, Mark Higgins, “Higs”, told everyone (via Lance’s twitter) “All went well. Lance is in recovery. Same guy just 12 screws in his collarbone. Higs”
Armstrong’s Austin based surgeon, Dr. Doug Elenz spoke about the surgery for the broken clavicle on the Team Astana Cycling site
“If you had to pin me down, I’d say it was an eight,” he said when asked how difficult the surgery was on a scale of 1-10. The surgery, which normally takes less than 90 minutes for a simple fracture, took slightly less than three hours and also included working on some of Armstrong’s abrasions from the crash. “No one’s ever accused me of being the fastest surgeon in the world,” Dr. Elenz quipped, “I think we should be expedient, methodical and get it right the first time.”
Rest up Lance! Listen to the doctors… who am I kidding. Just get better, ok?! Or better yet,
RUB SOME DIRT ON IT AND GET UP YOU BABY!!!
