What in the world is going on with the royals? It seems that they are never at a loss for scandal. Including the newest… The wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker, may not be legal. They’re being naughty!
Chuck and Cams got married three years ago in a civil ceremony (because she was a divorcee who’s ex spouse was still alive, unlike Charles). But it seems that the ceremony might have been off limits to the royal. The Daily Express found this
The controversy centres on the Marriage Act of 1836, which introduced civil weddings for the first time, but specifically banned royals from them.
A follow-up Act in 1949 appeared to continue the ban by saying: “Nothing in this Act shall affect any law or custom relating to the marriage of members of the Royal Family.”
A Home Office memo of 1948 declares it “desirable” that the ban on civil weddings for royals be kept in force in the new law and a second memo says: “The present time would seem ill-chosen for any alteration affecting royal marriages. On the whole, it would seem best to leave things as they are.”
A third memo in early 1949 reinforces the Home Office view that royals must be excluded from the Marriage Act.
So WTF does this mean??? are they just shacking up together? Now that wouldn’t be a good example after they had spent their lives fooling around on their respective spouses. I mean, what?
