Starbucks and (RED) today announced a multi-year partnership that will give coffee lovers a chance to do good every day.

Throughout the holiday season, Starbucks will contribute five cents from the sale of any of (Starbucks) RED Exclusive beverage (the three beverages that make up the Starbucks popular holiday trio) at all of their US and Canadian stores to the Global Fund to invest in AIDS programs in Africa.

“(RED) is making remarkable progress in the worldwide effort to address AIDS in Africa,” said Howard Schultz, Starbucks chairman, president and CEO. “We have a deep partnership with coffee growing regions in Africa. We are proud to partner with our customers to contribute toward an AIDS-free Africa.”

Schultz joined Bono, co-founder of (RED), for today’s announcement in front of 10,000 Starbucks partners (employees) at the company’s 2008 Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

“(RED) is coming to a corner near you thanks to Starbucks. I’m very excited to be able to say that,” said Bono, co-founder of (RED). “The business of Starbucks with roots in Africa and branches all over the world is an ideal fit for (RED). It’s pretty mind-blowing to think that millions of people can buy (RED) going about their daily lives and in doing so raise millions of dollars to fight AIDS in Africa. That’s not a bad hit from your caffeine.”

(Starbucks) RED Exclusive Holiday beverages go on sale November 27, 2008 and continue through January 2, 2009.

There’s speculation that the L.A. Times (who endorsed Obama for President) is holding back tapes of Barack Obama praising Palestinian activist Rashid Khalidi. It’s a video of a 2003 going away party for Khalidi at which Obama spoke.

(Khalidi is a controversial figure, reviled by pro-Israel activists, though not a marginal one. A former professor at the University of Chicago, he’s now Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia, and respected by many in academia. He’s been criticized most for saying that Palestinians have a right to resist Israeli occupation and has been described as a former P.L.O. spokesman, a label he has denied.)

“A major news organization is intentionally suppressing information that could provide a clearer link between Barack Obama and Rashid Khalidi,” said McCain spokesman Michael Goldfarb, citing Obama’s friendship with Khalidi, who is now a professor at Columbia University.

He said the video could, among other things, show how Obama responded to a poem recited at the party accusing Israel of “terrorism” and warning of consequences for U.S. support for Israel, which Goldfarb described as “hate speech.”

“The election is one week away, and it’s unfortunate that the press so obviously favors Barack Obama that this campaign must publicly request that the Los Angeles Times do its job — make information public,” he said.

This is a messy, messy election…. and why a news organization would sit on a video, is confusing to a little blogger like me. I know they wrote about the tapes 6 months ago, but reading about an event and seeing it are different. I just want to know what’s on the tapes! I’m more curious now because they don’t want to let it out!!!

The L.A. Times could have really avoided a mess. It’s the withholding of the tapes that’s making this a HUGE story in politics.

The WORST part of this??? Someone decided she should CRAP ALL OVER “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode. I don’t know who to me more pissed off at, Hillary Duff’s producers, or DM for LETTING HER DO THIS!!!!!

OK, so in college and high school I wasn’t a BIG DM fan, but I had friends that were and this song is just hot! The breathing in the middle is what caught my attention… who does that? OH, and FYI, I was in grade school when it first came out.

THIS IS WRONG AND EVIL!!!!!!!!! I need my own personal Jesus. Someone to hear my prayers, someone who’s there….
