Once in a while, readers send me interesting articles to look over and send on to everyone else.

One of my favorites today was how China is going to regulate how it’s citizens REINCARNATE!!! You HAVE to be kidding me.

According to a statement issued by the State Administration for Religious Affairs, the law, which goes into effect next month and strictly stipulates the procedures by which one is to reincarnate, is “an important move to institutionalize management of reincarnation.”

This is absurd. I thought it was your fate at to where and how you reincarnated according to Buddhist beliefs. Am I wrong here?

But like most things governments do when it come to religion, there is an underline motive. It seems that all this legislature is to take power away from the Dalai Lama.

By barring any Buddhist monk living outside China from seeking reincarnation, the law effectively gives Chinese authorities the power to choose the next Dalai Lama, whose soul, by tradition, is reborn as a new human to continue the work of relieving suffering.

Hmmmm, I don’t think it’s going to work. But then, I’m not a Buddhist in China.
